TOWN OF DICKINSON (WBNG) — The Broome County Health Department’s Traffic Safety Program held a car seat fitting event during the regional farmer’s market Tuesday afternoon.
Certified technicians checked to ensure that parents and caregivers have the right seat, that it’s correctly installed and fitted correctly to their child’s size.
"Surprisingly, we have about a 75 percent misuse rate and that means of all the seats that come through our checkpoints. There’s a very small portion that are being used correctly, so we’re trying to reduce that misuse so kids are out there riding as safely as possible," said Broome County Health Department Traffic Safety Coordinator Christine Muss.
Parents are also reminded to check their car seat’s expiration date and to send in the seat’s registration card for notification of a possible recall.
