VESTAL (WBNG) — For Cindy Hull and other members of the local chapter of the International Federation of Trekkers, loving Star Trek wasn’t a choice.
"It’s kind of inbred in the family. My family has watched it all their lives, my husband watches it, so basically grew up with it," said Hull, the Fleet Kaptain of the chapter.
But this group is about more than just a shared love of the show.
"We volunteer our services where needed and of course now we’re trying to get the donations for North Carolina," said Hull.
That’s why when Hurricane Florence hit, the members knew they couldn’t ignore the call of duty.
"We’re in a position where we’re close enough to help, but far enough away that we weren’t affected directly. A lot of people in the area have family down there, friends down there. It’s just something we can do that they can’t," said Michael Tennant, the Commanding Officer of the chapter.
This Saturday from 10 to 5 p.m. at the Vestal Museum, the group is collecting donations to bring down to those affected.
To them, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from, because if the whole world works together, then everyone can…
