Binghamton University holds 9th annual Community Opportunities Fair

VESTAL (WBNG) — Binghamton University is helping connect students with local organizations in need of volunteers.

The university’s Center for Civic Engagement held its 9th annual Community Opportunities Fair Wednesday afternoon.

Around 500 students came to see what 85 local organizations had to offer.

Volunteer and internship opportunities ranged from community school programs to healthcare and public service.

“Nonprofit organizations that are understaffed a lot of times need help, and students are really eager to get out into the community,” says Laura Reindl, the Assistant Director for Communications at the Center for Civic Engagement. “It provides them with opportunities to meet community mentors and learn from people in the community. It provides them with professional experience going forward into their lives, but it also just makes them feel like Binghamton is their home.”

The next Community Opportunities Fair takes place next October.

Until then, the Center for Civic Engagement encourages anyone looking to enlist student help to contact them.
