(WBNG) — Hundreds of positions are being sought for road maintenance during winter across New York State, including nearly 100 positions in the Southern Tier.
The New York State Department of Transportation announced Thursday is hiring for nearly 500 maintenance worker permanent and season positions statewide. 91 of those positions are in the Southern Tier.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid class A or B driver’s license, pass a physical and drug test, and be certified to operate DOT heavy dump trucks within two weeks after start of employment.
Maintenance workers mainly work to remove snow and ice from roads, but also make general highway repairs. Shifts generally run from early morning to early afternoon, and from early afternoon to late evening, but those hours can shift to two 12-hour shifts during storms.
