Big storm on the way for Friday

Tonight: Variable clouds to clear. Wide range in temperatures possible from cloudy to clear areas. Wind: W 6-12 Low: 28-38
Thursday: Clouds and sun. Wind: NW 6-12G18 High: 41-46
Thursday Night: Clouds increase. Wind: N 2-7 Low: 29-35

Forecast Discussion:
Clear conditions last through parts of the area overnight. We’ll watch some clouds possibly shift off Lake Erie and reach across the Southern Tier as winds shift from NW to W overnight. Temperatures will range from the upper 20s to upper 30s.

Thursday remains dry with a mix of cloud and sunshine. It will be a bit colder with highs only in the 40s. Winds will not be as strong.

A large storm is on the way to the northeast Friday. Some snow, or at the very least, a mix, is possible for a period of time if enough cold air is in place. The best chance of this will be in the higher elevations. There is some thermodynamic forecast evidence of even a small chance of a brief period of sleet in a few isolated spots. Any mixed precipitation will turn to all rain through the afternoon. Valleys are expected to stay all rain at this time. The chance of precipitation is 100% with highs in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Saturday and Sunday will be colder with highs in the 30s to near 40 both days. A few snow showers are possible Saturday, but overall, we expect a sun and cloud mix with long precipitation-free periods. Sunday looks great with high pressure in control. Next week shows some colder weather on the way and the increasing potential of a coastal storm next Tuesday. At this time, the storm appears ‘warm’ meaning mostly rain. Monitor the forecast for any changes.
