VIRGIL (WBNG) — Skiers and snowboarders filled Greek Peak Mountain Resort on its opening day.
“My husband and I both use to teach skiing here and we met here on the hill and now five kids, two dogs and a house in the suburbs later we’re still skiing at Greek Peak,” said Kim Bendus of Pleasantville.
Bendus makes it a tradition to come back year after year.
“It’s just a lot of fun,” she said. “It’s close. It’s convenient and very family friendly.”
The resort officially opened its doors for the season Friday.
“It was just really nice to see everybody come through and really excited,” said Greek Peak Mountain Resort Director of Sales and Marketing Kaitlyn Head. “We’ve got about nine trails open today so no matter what it was going to be like I think they were ready to hit the slopes.”
Many skiers and snowboarders made sure to have fun in the snow.
“It’s like just a free ride kind of,” explained Seth Pesotine from the town of Maine. “It’s pretty sweet. You kind of just get your board and your mountain under your feet and you just go. You just let loose.”
Michael Krom of Windsor and Tanner Pesotine of Whitney Point also snowboarded.
“Release some stress, love riding the hill,” said Krom. “Have a good time,” said Tanner. “It’s a good thing to do in the winter. It gets me exercising. I’m not sitting at home doing nothing.”
Greek Peak says this is the third year in a row its been able to open right after Thanksgiving.
