BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer announced he will retire following the Rose Bowl on Tuesday. Health concerns is the primary reason Meyer is stepping away from football.
Meyer told reporters on Tuesday, “I believe I will not coach again.”
Meyer spent seven seasons at Ohio State, capturing one National Championship. He also won two national titles with the Florida Gators during his six seasons as Florida’s head coach. Meyer also was the head coach at Bowling Green State and Utah.
No. 6 Ohio State takes on No. 9 Washington in the Rose Bowl on January 1 at 5 p.m.
Offensive coordinator Ryan Day will take over the Ohio State football program as its next head coach. Day was the interim coach while Meyer was suspension this season. Ohio State went 3-0 with Day as the head coach.
