OWEGO (WBNG) – December 7, 2018 is the 77th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
In remembrance of this, the Owego Veterans of Foreign Wars held a ceremony to honor all who lost their lives that day, including Delmer Dale Sibley, of Owego. He remains entombed in the USS Arizona.
“I vaguely remember it myself, that particular day, said VFW Post 1371 Pearl Harbor Day chair Jim Raftis. “Remembrance is the key. It’s very important to remember.”
Four other Tioga County veterans experienced the attack firsthand and have since passed away.
They were U.S. Marine Lester Dunham, Army Sergeants Donald Stocks and Richard Hopkins, and Army Private First Class Bill Kennedy, who died this past February.
