COLUMBUS, N.Y. (WBNG) — One person was killed and two others were injured in a two-car crash in Chenango County Saturday morning, according to New York State Police.
Troopers say the head-on crash on County Road 25 in Columbus happened around 1:30 a.m.
State Police say an investigation revealed that a 27-year-old man from Sherburne was driving west on Country Road 25 when he crossed onto oncoming traffic. Authorities say he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say they are still working to determine why he crossed the center line of the roadway.
State Police also say his passenger, a 26-year-old woman of Edmeston, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Bassett Hospital by CMT Ambulance.
Police say the driver of the other vehicle, a 46-year-old woman of Schuyler Lake, was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center for severe injuries, but is expected to survive.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the people involved.
Authorities say New York State Police Troop C’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was on scene for hours early Saturday morning and continues to investigate the crash.
At 7 a.m., the road was reopened.
The Sherburne Fire Department, North Norwich Fire, and the New Berlin Fire Department also responded to the scene.
