How to be a part of ‘Night to Shine 2019’ in Broome County next month

Organizers say no more volunteers are needed for this event.

TOWN OF FENTON (WBNG) — A prom night for people with special needs is coming to the Southern Tier in February 8.

“Night to Shine” is sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation. It’s an experience centered on God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older.

First United Methodist Church is hosting the event at the Chenango Valley High School from 6 p.m to 9 p.m.

“We really come kind of full circle to where we’re getting a chance to go. Like Jesus tell us to do, to be out in the community and interact with the community,” said Pastor Bob Clark with the First United Methodist Church. “So yeah, it’s been very exciting.”

The church is one of nearly 650 churches in 21 countries to host the event next month.

“Two of my leaders in outreach ministry, they had gone and heard Tim Tebow speak at one of the local churches during the summer time and he talked about this and they decided well can we put in an application and he said sure,” said Clark.

Registration is required, if you’re interested in attending, click here.

“We also have limousines and the drivers,” he said. “They will be actually driven in a limousine and dropped off on a red carpet and basically a paparazzi set in there.

Pastor Clark says there will also be Disney characters and magicians bringing the night to life.

Rowdy the Rumble Pony will also be making a special appearance.

“Rowdy is very excited to be at Night to Shine,” said Binghamton Rumble Ponies Managing Director. “I think it’s a great opportunity really for this community to come together. I think it’s the first time it’s been in this area. So we’re glad Tim Tebow’s Foundation was able to find a place here and really give back to the community.”

Tim Tebow may not be at the event in person. “But he will, there will be a video message that occurs during the night,” explained Clark.

First United Methodist Church is looking for volunteers and for people to donate dresses and suits for the event.
