Forecast Discussion:
Light snow is expected to develop tonight with a trace to an inch or two by morning. There could be some slippery spots. Lows will be in the upper teens to mid 20s. Friday turns partly sunny with a few snow showers possible. Highs will be in the mid 30s. Friday night remains quiet, the proverbial ‘calm before the storm’, with lows in the upper teens to low 20s. Be sure to tune into 12 News at 11 tonight

Saturday starts quiet, but light snow arrives west to east in the afternoon and picks up in intensity overnight into Sunday morning. Highs Saturday will be in the mid 20s. The chance of snow increases to 90% by evening and is 100% overnight. Several inches of snow could fall by late evening Saturday. The heaviest snow is expected overnight Saturday. There is still a chance of a several hour period of wintry mix south and southeast of Binghamton. This chance appears to be decreasing. Wintry mix precipitation is not expected in the Finger Lakes. The location of any wintry mix will depend on the exact storm track. There is even a small chance the mix stay in the Poconos only. This could inflate snowfall totals in areas currently expected to see the mix.

WEEKEND STORM THOUGHTS: A significant, multi-threat snowstorm is coming for the northeast Saturday afternoon into Sunday. Impact of this storm will be HIGH to VERY HIGH. Travel will become difficult to impossible. Snowfall rates will be 1-2”/hour during the peak of the storm overnight Saturday. Please monitor the forecast on 12 News This Morning,, and be sure to download the WBNG Storm Track 12 weather app, too. Videos will be posted up to, and through, the storm. The other threat with the storm will be the dangerous cold coming in behind it. Temperatures plummet through the day Sunday and Sunday night. Monday will bring high temperatures in the single digits. Some sub-zero high are possible! Chills could be 20-30 below zero.
