Tebow headed to Mets Spring Training as non-roster invitee

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Tim Tebow is heading to Port St. Lucie this February for the New York Mets Spring Training Camp. Tebow is one of the Mets’ non-roster invitees announced Thursday. It will be his second spring in a row in big league camp.

Tebow struggled in spring training last season, striking out 11 times in 19 at-bats in big league camp, but he turned it on with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies hitting .273 before breaking the hamate bone in his right hand in July.

New York Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen has stated Tebow is likely to begin the season in Triple-A Syracuse.

Former Binghamton Rumble Pony Peter Alonso is among the other non-roster invitees for the Mets.

Pitchers and catchers report for the Mets on February 12.
