(WBNG) — The freshman congressman for New York’s 22nd Congressional District will serve on two committees, his office announced today.
Rep. Anthony Brindisi (D) was appointed to the United States House Agriculture Committee and the United State House Veterans Affairs Committee.
“My top priority as a member of Congress is listening to my constituents and doing everything I can to solve their problems,” Congressman Brindisi said in a statement. “That’s the same approach I will take to the Agriculture and Veterans’ Affairs Committees. That’s why I am setting up two advisory councils made up of folks from the district who can help guide my work and priorities in Congress. My team and I will meet regularly with our Veterans Advisory Council and our Agriculture Advisory Council to hear directly from those on the frontlines about the challenges they are facing and the work that needs to be done. I know there is a lot to do.”
The agriculture committee handles issues related to livestock, dairy, poultry, agricultural credit, rural development, nutrition, and horticulture. The 22nd district is classified as more than 50 percent rural.
The Veterans’ Affairs Committee oversees programs for veterans which include those for health care, veterans’ hospitals, education programs, job counseling and transition from service to veteran life.
