Family of Jerome Smith seeks help with funeral expenses

JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) — The family of an 11-year-old boy from Johnson City who was killed February 2 is asking for help with funeral expenses.

As of 11 a.m. Monday, a gofundme account published by relatives had raised $1,065 of its $10,500 goal.

Family members told 12 News they’re still in shock over his death and described Jerome as a fun, loving kid who loved to dance and watch WWE wrestling.

The Johnson City Police Department on Friday announced that Jerome’s mother, 30-year-old Shakia Crute, has been charged with manslaughter.

Authorities have not released how Jerome died and say the investigation is ongoing.
