(WBNG) — A decade after a scandal rocked Binghamton University, we are for the first time hearing from two basketball players who were kicked off the team.
This week 10 years ago, the Binghamton Bearcats were playing mighty Duke in the NCAA Tournament.
It was a dream come true for the university in just its eighth year of Division I athletics, but the feel good story didn’t last long. Months later, a scandal was exposed that resulted in the president, athletic director and head coach all leaving the college.
Star players of the team were also kicked off and this is the first time some of them are speaking out.
“Once we found out later that night, that next morning I woke up, I knew that that was a bad decision, bad judgment call by doing that,” former player D.J. Rivera told 12 News.
In a full 30-minute special broadcast airing Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. on WBNG, we’ll reveal the untold story of the 2009 Binghamton University men’s basketball team.
