Matthews Subaru ‘shares the love’ with the community

VESTAL (WBNG) — Matthews Subaru in Vestal shared the love with the community on Tuesday, donating tens of thousands of dollars to local nonprofits.

It’s apart of the Subaru of America’s “Share the Love” initiative.

From November 2018 to January 2019 Subaru of America donated $250 for each new Subaru sold to the customer’s choice of four national charities including Make-A-Wish, National Parks Foundation, Meals on Wheels of America and ASPCA.

Dealers were given the opportunity to pick a local charity, Matthews Subaru decided on the Broome County Humane Society for the fifth year.

Tuesday, Matthews Auto presented a check to the BC Humane Society for $21,005, added with previous years it totals out to $93,302 to the organization along with additional donations of pet food and supplies in the past years.

“We provide care to over 12 hundred animals a year and it provides us the opportunity to give the animals veterinary care when they come into our shelter. that many animals that come through our door all need to be spayed and neutered, brought up to date on their shots and receive their flea treatment and stuff like that,” said Karen Matson, Broome County Humane Society Executive Director.

Meals on Wheels of Western Broome also received a check from Matthews. That check totaled to $6,765.

“Since we are private and we don’t receive any funding, we rely on the funding to keep the costs down and all the meals affordable for all the clients we serve. We served over 42,000 meals last year alone,” said Jackie Pangiliman the Executive director of Meals on Wheels of Western Broome.
