VESTAL (WBNG) — The Binghamton University softball team will head to Hartford for the America East tournament this week.
The Bearcats found out their fate last Friday, after Maine lost to Stonybrook. The Bearcats enter the tournament as the number 6 seed, and will open play Wednesday, at 1:30 p.m. against number 3 seed Stonybrook. The winner of that contest will go on to face number 1 UMass Lowell Thursday at 11 a.m. The tournament is double elimination format.
This marks Binghamton’s eighth appearance in the tournament. The team hold’s a 10-13 overall record, recording third-place finishes in five of those years. Last year, the Bearcats finished fifth, but the confidence is high entering the week.
“We feel good about where we’re at right now,” said coach Michelle Johnston. “We know that if we can, if we play our game that we can play with anybody in our conference.”
“We’re very confident right now,” said sophomore utility player Sarah Benn. “We’ve had time to mentally prepare and focus on what we want to focus on, and I think that’s set us up and put us in a good spot for the conference this week.”
