NYSEG: Fallen tree to blame for overnight outage

12:40 P.M. UPDATE:

TOWN OF DICKINSON (WBNG) — We’re learning more about what took out the lights for thousands of NYSEG customers early Tuesday.

According to the utility company, a tree fell onto a transmission line in a wooded area near the Broome County Sheriff’s Office in the town of Dickinson around 12:35 a.m.

NYSEG says the incident impacted numerous substations, which led to more than 5,000 customers losing electricity.

Crews got to work and were able to restore power to more than 70 percent of the customers within two hours. All electricity was full-restored by 5 a.m., according to NYSEG.

Customers in Binghamton, Castle Creek, Chenango Bridge and Whitney Point are among those who were affected by the outage.

(WBNG) — According to NYSEG, all power has been restored.

3:40 A.M. UPDATE

(WBNG) — NYSEG has restored power to thousands of customers in Broome County.

As of 3:23 a.m., 1,173 customers are without power, according to NYSEG.

Town of Chenango: 555

Town of Dickinson: 612

(WBNG) — More than 5,000 customers are without power Tuesday morning in Broome County, according to NYSEG.

NYSEG is reporting 5,242 customers across several townships in Broome County are without power as of 1:38 a.m.

Barker: 242

Binghamton: 6

Town of Chenango: 4,095

Town of Dickinson: 612

Town of Fenton: 28

Town of Maine: 269

NYSEG says the estimated time of power restoration is 4:15 a.m.
