(WBNG) — The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles would like to remind New Yorkers to replace damaged or peeling license plates.
They say older license plates may show peeling on its printed coating.
The DMV says that they will exchange these peeling plates for a new set free of charge.
If the plates just show natural use, like fading or chip damage, the DMV says you will need to pay to replace them.
A new set of plates can be requested at a DMV office or by contacting the Custom Plates Unit at 1-518-402-4838 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
