BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles is reminding drivers to double check their license plates.
It says the printed coating on many older plates is at risk of peeling, which could make the plate difficult to read.
Police say you could still be pulled over and receive a ticket.
“It’s really no different than if your car had a manufacture issue,” Johnson City Police Chief Brent Dodge said. “You are running a risk of something bad happening.”
The DMV says if your plate is peeling, you can replace it free of charge.
