ENDWELL (WBNG) — Some Maine-Endwell students went on the adventure of a lifetime today.
Homer Brink Elementary held its immigration day on Thursday.
Fourth graders got a first-hand experience of how European immigrants arrived in our country. Students went through all the stages the immigrants would go through when entering the country to simulate the immigrants’ long journey to Ellis Island in the 1800’s and early 1900’s,
“We encourage them to dress up as immigrants, they really take on the role,” said Adriane Deyo, a fourth grade teacher at Homer Brink. “We have active parent volunteers that come in and they are just as enthusiastic as the teachers and the children.”
Students were also tasked with researching a country of origin, all while dressing for the time period.
