Rumble Ponies drop series to Thunder

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — On a night that rain cut the game short, the Rumble Ponies dropped the series finale to the Trenton Thunder, 4-1 in seven innings. This marked the third straight series the Ponies have lost.

For the second night in a row, the Thunder struck first. Brandon Wagner took Tommy Wilson deep in the second inning, to put Trenton up 1-0. They added some insurance in the sixth inning. With Adonis Uceta pitching in relief, Trenton catcher Kellin Deglan hit a two-run home run to make it 4-0.

The Ponies scored their only run in the 7th, on a Will Toffey RBI double. Trenton’s starter Nick Nelson kept the bats quiet, allowing just four hits over five scoreless innings, fanning five.

Final score:

Rumble Ponies (33-27) – 1, Thunder (36-25) – 4

The Ponies open a series with the Altoona Curve tomorrow night at NYSEG Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
