Union-Endicott hosts job fair to attract new bus drivers

ENDICOTT (WBNG) — The Union-Endicott school district is looking for new bus drivers.

The bus driver job fair took place at the Union-Endicott district office on East Main Street.

Union-Endicott says it decided to do a job fair so people can get information from real bus drivers and even take the bus for a spin in the parking lot.

According to Lisa Bennet, supervisor of transportation for U-E, says there has been a shortage of school bus drivers across the county.

“Maybe they are intimidated by the size of the vehicle or they think they cant handle the kids,” explains Bennet.

“So by doing a job fair, we give them the opportunity. We actually have the bus on a closed course, they can come down and actually drive the bus around the parking lot. I have staff on hand they can talk to; people who have been doing it for years,” she said.

The fair went on until 7 p.m. Thursday night.
