Maine-Endwell advances to state title game, SV falls to Center Moriches

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) – On Friday, Maine-Endwell knocked off Canandaigua, 5-4 to advance to the state title game. Later in the day Susquehanna Valley fell to Center Moriches, 5-3 ending their historic season.

Final score:

Canandaigua – 4, Maine-Endwell – 5

The Spartans took an early lead in the first inning and never looked back. Thanks to some stellar defensive plays and Michael Mancini providing the spark for the fourth and fifth runs, the Spartans were able to hold off the Braves.

Adam Rutkowski pitched a complete game for Maine-Endwell.

“It’s exciting for the program,” said Maine-Endwell head coach Matt Raleigh. “It’s exciting for the kids and a special treat for those seniors, obviously you are up 5-1 but we talked about it all year long that at some point in the game someone is going to punch you in the face and you have to just hang in there and take the punch and after Adam gave up that three-run homer he settled in and pitched a nice job.”

Maine-Endwell will play in the state title game Saturday at Binghamton University. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.

Final score:

Susquehanna Valley – 3, Center Moriches – 5

The Red Devils struck early and often against Saber pitching. With the team down 4-1, Dan Matthews drove in two runs with an infield single to cut the deficit to one.

Center Moriches would shut the door though and SV wouldn’t score another run.
