Police: NYS corrections officer charged with DWI after Apalachin crash

APALACHIN (WBNG) — Police say a corrections officer with the New York State Department of Correction and Community Supervision was charged with driving while intoxicated after crashing his motorcycle in Apalachin early Friday.

New York State Police say 25-year-old Cody Lowe of Apalachin was heading west down Main Street just after 2 a.m. when he struck a tree near the Apalachin Library.

Police say the motorcycle went airborne, then hit the ground again before hitting a flag pole.

According to police, Lowe was ejected from the motorcycle and landed several feet from the flag pole. He was found on the ground when police arrived.

State police say a trooper stabilized his head and neck until an ambulance arrived.

Lowe was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital for complaints of pain in his back and arm. He also had cuts on his head and lip, according to police.

He was charged with the misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated and issued tickets returnable to the Town of Owego Court on July 16.

Police say Lowe was off-duty at the time of the incident.
