TOWN OF CHENANGO (WBNG) — The Ukrainian festival showcased food, music, and local vendors all representing the Eastern European country.
“It’s really unique the kind of stuff we have here. Honestly, people are very talented that they can make some of these things, so it’s a portrayal of their own skills as well as the uniqueness of Ukrainian culture,” said Stefan Czumak, a member of the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church.
The festival featured a variety of foods native to Ukraine, all homemade by the church’s staff.
“You can’t pick a favorite. It’s like picking a favorite child. You can’t pick a favorite child, you like everything,” said Olena Czabala, a member of the church.
For Czabala, she’s proud to be from Ukraine, and wants to share her culture with others. Czabala and Czumak agree that Ukrainian culture is unique and deserves a celebration.
“Looking back, I’m very happy with the culture I have, it’s nice to have a very large cultural background, to be unique, and to be part of me,” said Czumak.
The festival continues on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Picnic Grounds in the Town of Chenango. To see more activities from the church, visit their website.
