Johnson City man looking to donate his collection of 84,000 books

JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) — A local resident is looking to donate a collection of 84 thousand books to anyone who can put them to good use.

Richard Safari says he’s had the books for nearly six years, all sitting in his garage and a local storage facility. He says he’s reached out to the community, including places like the Broome County Public Library, Oakdale Mall, and even Goodwill. None of which are able to take the large quantity of books.

“I talked to United Way, which may be interested through it’s partner’s organization. So I’m waiting for them to talk to their partners and come back to me,” said Safari.

Now, he’s asking for the public’s help. Safari says he would love to give the books to a college institution or somewhere they can be used. Anyone interested in taking a large quantity of books is encouraged to email Safari at bliss528@gmail.com or call at 607-761-5654.
