CLEVELAND (WBNG) – On Sunday, MLB announced the rosters for the 2019 All-Star Game and it included a combination of six Mets and Yankees. The game is set to be played on July 9th in Cleveland.
Despite owning a record ten games under .500, the Mets are sending three players to Cleveland. Both Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil spent a majority of last season in Binghamton and this year are MLB All Stars. Jacob deGrom will be joining them and making his third All-Star Game appearance.
In his first full season with the Mets, McNeil is hitting .344/.409/.508 with six home runs and 32 RBI’s. Alonso is hitting a stellar .278 with a team high 28 home runs.
Coming off a Cy Young season, deGrom has four wins and a 3.32 ERA.
The Yankees sit in first place in the America League East and are also sending three players to the game. Both Gary Sanchez and DJ LeMahieu will be in the starting lineup for the American League.
Sanchez has been much better than he was last season. The catcher is hitting .266/.332/.607 and ranking second in the AL with 23 home runs. LeMahieu in his first season in pinstripes has been unbelievable, hitting .342 with 59 RBI’s.
Aroldis Chapman will be joining the other two, he has 21 saves and a 1.36 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 33 innings.
Alonso will be participating in Monday night’s Home Run Derby. Sanchez declined an invitation from MLB.
