(WBNG/WTVH) — Law enforcement agencies have closed down Interstate 81 in both directions between Exit 14 to Tully and Exit 15 to LaFayette.

According to a report by CBS-affiliate WTVH, New York State Police say troopers responded around 3:30 a.m. Monday to reports of an unconscious person in a vehicle. Authorities said troopers and fire personnel had to break the vehicle’s windows, and once inside they found an unknown chemical.

Police say two troopers and the driver were sent to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. How they were injured is not clear.

As of 8:45 a.m. Monday, Interstate 81 northbound and southbound remains closed to traffic as the Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team works at the scene.

State police say the highway is expected to be closed for several more hours.
