TOWN OF DICKINSON (WBNG) — One man has been arrested and charged for a fire that took place at the Econo Lodge on Old Front St..
Multiple fire departments responded to reports of a fire in one of the rooms in the evening of July 3.
Officials from the Broome County Sheriff’s Office say the responding deputies saw smoke and flames coming from the room, and evacuated the occupants of the hotel rooms. The occupant of the room with the fire, 45 year old Thomas Sutton of Sidney, was restrained for refusing commands to stay out of the building.
The fire departments were able to contain the fire to one room.
Sutton was transported to Binghamton General Hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries from incidents prior to the fire event. There were no reported injuries from the scene otherwise.
On July 9, Sutton was taken into custody upon release from the hospital and taken to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Facility where he was arranged before magistrate on various charges.
These charges include:
- Arson 2nd Degree, class B felony
- Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, class D felony
- Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree, class D felony
- Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd Degree, class A misdemeanor
