JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) — Millions of Americans suffer from back and joint pain every year, and local physical therapists want you to know you have plenty of options.
HydroWorx is a Pennsylvania-based company that develops equipment such as underwater treadmills to be used for aquatherapy, or water-based physical therapy. The company brought a demo version of the treadmill to Bodyworks in Johnson City Wednesday, where residents had the chance to try out the technology for themselves.
The founder of Bodyworks said she was inspired to start the physical therapy practice after having a breakthrough experience with aquatherapy.
“I was bringing some children to a pool that I rented and I saw the benefits of the aquatherapy with the children, and they absolutely loved it,” said Lisa Cerutti, who is a registered physical therapist in addition to being the owner. “There’s nothing like it in the Southern Tier.”
Bodyworks staff say they have the only underwater treadmill in not just Broome County but most of the Southern Tier. HydroWorx employees say because of the water’s ability to reduce stress on your body, anybody can benefit from aquatherapy.
“An athlete that’s trying to improve their conditioning, or it’s someone who just had a knee replacement or someone that’s just trying to lose weight and recover,” said Nicole Biesecker.
