BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — This week’s edition of Inside Rumbletown brings us Gavin Cecchini, the Mets 2012 first round draft pick. Cecchini has been battling injuries over the last few years, but made his return to baseball last month.
On recovering from his injuries:
“You know, I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason. And you know it was a grind, I was hurt all last year, but you know just doing everything I can to get back on the field, and I’m glad I’m out here playing and helping the team win,” said Cecchini.
On improvements he’s working on this season:
“Yeah you know a lot of people ask me that question and I always say the same answer and. It’s everything. I’m always trying to get better in every part of the game, and that’s what I try to do every single day.”
On giving the Ponies an offensive boost:
“Yeah it’s fun. We play this game to win. Even though it’s the minor leagues and you know it’s about development, but also, I think the best way to develop players is to teach them to win. So, winning baseball games is huge and I’m glad that I’m able to be a part of it.”
On motivation to get back to the majors:
“Yeah, I never had, first off I never had the mentality to give up. That’s not me. I’ve always, I’ve had some obstacles that I’ve had to go through, but I’ve always bounced back from it. But also being in the big leagues, it does add, when you have a taste of it, it makes you hungry to get back there. The big leagues is everything you dream of, and practice and work for and play for, and you know that’s everyone’s goal or should be everyone’s goal to play there and stick there.”
On his message to fans:
“I’m back and ready to go.”
Gavin and the Rumble Ponies are on the road for a four-game series in Akron, followed by three games in Reading. They return home Thursday, July 25 for a series against the Bowie Baysox.
