SHERBURNE, N.Y. (WBNG) — An ice cream shop in Sherburne is debuting a spicy ice cream flavor at Spiedie Fest this weekend, but make sure you lick with caution!
Andy Lagoe and his crew at Gilligan’s Ice Cream are no rookies at switching up traditional ice cream flavors.
“We came up with the beer, wine and hard cider, we were the first company to come up with those ice creams in New York State,” says Lagoe.
Their newest concoction is kicking it up a notch however. It’s named Inferno and includes special ingredient ghost pepper powder.
Describing the flavor, Lagoe says, “if you try to bite a whole bowl of this, you might be in trouble.”
The ice cream is so hot, staff even make you sign a waiver if you’re brave enough to order a scoop.
“Our legal counsel recommended that we get a waiver, just because some people when they eat hot things it can do funny things to them, like you better be safe, make it only for 18 and over and make them sign a waiver, just so you have it on record that they know what they’re getting into.”
It’s an ice cream so sizzling, the store doesn’t even keep it with the other flavors to make sure they’re not mixed up.
If you’re interested in giving it a try, the hot ice cream will be available at Spiedie Fest under the ‘Taste of NY’ tent.
