OWEGO (WBNG) — For the Painted Pony champions, this isn’t their first rodeo, but it was the first time for the Tioga County Fair.
Hundreds came out Tuesday evening to see the first ever Painted Pony Championship Rodeo at the Tioga County Fair.
World class traveling cowboys and cowgirls competed in many classic western competitions, including bull riding, team roping and saddle bronco riding.
The heavy rain and mud posed a challenge for the riders, giving the animals advantage.
However, officials say giving it all they got for the crowd is the western way.
“It’s still gonna be a great show, that’s the cowboy way,” says Kurt Warner, announcer for the Painted Pony Rodeo. “We work rain or shine sun-up to sun-down and it’s all about bringing the western way of life to the southern tier in a unique fashion really.”
Event organizers are hoping to make next year’s rodeo even bigger and better.
