Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena gearing up for proposed upgrades

The Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena is gearing up for some proposed upgrades to the facility. 12 News reporter, Jack Arpey went to the arena to meet with General Manager, Chris Marion to talk about the expected changes.

The project is expected to include: a state-of-the-art arena that maintains similar capacity or adds to the current capacity; improves accessibility and security; industry standard concessions, food service, and merchandising facilities; efficient building systems and operations; modern team/event support facilities and amenities; and general enhancements to the fan-experience. The plan shall be consistent with the original intent of the facility as a memorial to all Broome County Veterans and designed to create a facility that our community will be proud of for many years to come.

It is the intent of the County to seek grant funding for construction in multiple phases. Phase 1 would consist of near-term improvements completed in the next 12-18 months meant to retain an AHL hockey team and improve ADA Accessibility for all show types with a budget of $6,000,000. Phase 2 would be a transformative project completed in the next 2-4 years and meet the above listed objective with a budget of $30,000,000. Phase 3 would consist of a long-term plan to utilize land to the south of the building in the event it becomes available for development consistent with the needs of the facility and the vision for Downtown Binghamton.

The Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena is located on One Stuart Street in Binghamton.
You can follow the journey of this project either online or like the arena on Facebook.
