Keith Urban to take the stage at En-Joie

(WBNG) — The Dick’s Sporting Goods Open packs the professionals. From the golfers on the green to the entertainers taking the stage.

As part of this year’s open, country music superstar Keith Urban, will be performing right here in the Southern Tier.

“I mean, it’s amazing to say we’ve got the CMA entertainer of the year right here in Endicott, New York, Dicks Sporting Goods Open, part of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open week. Just something special again for our community that we’re all thankful for,” said tournament director John Karedes.

While Keith Urban’s songs have been topping the charts in recent years, his success started a long time ago.

The country music star debuted his first album in the United States in 1999. Since then, Urban has won four Grammy awards and been nominated 19 times. He’s even gone on to help aspiring singers, becoming a judge for American Idol season 12 in 2013. And earlier this year, Urban was named ACM entertainer of the year.

All that combined is helping build the excitement for when Urban takes the stage at En-Joie.

“Really since we’ve announced him back right around the first of the year, right around Christmas time, it’s been off the wall,” said Karedes.

Originally from Australia, Urban is a worldwide performer. Wherever he goes, he’s sure to transform a venue into an experience.

“I’ve heard his show is just full of energy, we’re all going to be amazed at what a great guitarist he is and what a great show he puts on,” said Karedes.

The Keith Urban concert will take place Friday night. And tournament organizers say it’s a quick turn around from sport, to show.

“When that last putt drops on Friday evening, tomorrow evening, and the last professional golfer is done, then our crews go into work to make sure the green that is well protected and make sure that we have plenty of trash cans, to make sure that the crowd is released into the fairway safely,” said Karedes.

Karedes says they are expecting a crowd size similar to the Blake Shelton concert at En-Joie last year.
