MARATHON, N.Y. (WBNG) — As of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, one lane remained closed on Interstate 81 northbound in Marathon after an active scene overnight.
The stretch of the highway between Exit 8 to Whitney Point and Exit 10 to Cortlandville was closed entirely for three hours, starting around 3:40 a.m.
According to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of one tractor-trailer went off the roadway, struck several trees, overturned and came to a rest, blocking both lanes of traffic.
Authorities say the operator of a second tractor-trailer was unable to avoid the situation and struck the first tractor-trailer.
No injuries were reported.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Marathon Fire Department, Ron’s Towing & Auto Body, the New York State Department of Transportation and the New York State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
