Prospect Mountain construction to affect traffic, starts Monday morning

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — The New York State Department of Transportation would like to alert motorists that the impending construction on Prospect Mountain will affect traffic in Binghamton.

Staring 6 a.m. Monday, I-81 North/NY 17 West Exit 3 will be closed for crews to reconstruct the exit ramp.

The DOT says a detour will be in place directing motorists around the ramp closure.

On Monday night through Thursday night, I-81 North/NY West will be reduced to one lane between Exit 3 and Exit 4A.  This lane reduction will only occur during night, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

The department says construction on the exit ramp is expected to be finished on Friday.

A full description of the construction plan is listed below:

Starting Monday, August 26, 2019 at 6 a.m. and ending Friday, August 30, 2019 at 6 a.m. I81 North/NY 17 West Exit 3 (Broad Ave.) will be closed for crews to reconstruct the exit ramp.  A signed detour will be in place directing motorists around the ramp closure.  The signed detour route will be I81 North/NY 17 West to Exit 4A (Binghamton/Port Dickinson) to NY 7 North to Bevier Street to Broad Ave.  This work is weather dependent.
