Wegmans makes statement about firearms in stores

JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) — Wegmans is now the latest store to request customers to not openly carry firearms in their stores.

While openly carrying firearms is already illegal in the State of New York, Wegmans is announcing this request for all of its locations.

This comes after Walmart and Kroger made a similar request following the mass shooting in Odessa, Texas.

In a Twitter post they stated:

“There’s nothing more important than the safety of our customers & employees. The sight of someone with a gun can be alarming, and we don’t want anyone to feel that way at Wegmans. For this reason, we prefer that customers not openly carry firearms into our stores. There’s nothing more important than the safety of our customers and employees.
