BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — Lourdes unveiled its newest Dental Van at a press conference Thursday morning.
The newest addition to their fleet will provide dental services to elementary schools and rural, under-served communities in the Southern Tier.
Lourdes says oral health is connected to overall health, and dental problems may contribute to various diseases and conditions.
The van is a part of Lourdes’ fleet of mobile medical units which includes two mobile mammography vans, a mobile service van and another dental van.
The newest vehicle is a response to a great need in community and surrounding counties for dental services.
“This is one way for us to go out and capture the population that doesn’t necessarily have access to health care or dental care, so this is a really big part of us migrating to some of our surrounding counties.”
Lourdes has already brought a dental van to Chenango County where they have lost two dental clinics in the last year.
The new van was made possible by the Dr. G. Clifford and Florence B. Decker foundation, as well as the Mee foundation.
