(WBNG) — The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office says one person is in custody following an investigation into a stabbing that occurred Wednesday morning in the town of Otselic.
The sheriff’s office says 49-year-old Howard C. Williams of Bronx, NY was taken into custody following the stabbing.
According to the sheriff’s office, a male was stabbed “multiple times” by a co-worker at a cellular phone tower on Flanagan Road.
Authorities say Williams fled the area, but was located and taken into custody at a motel in the town of McGraw by members of the New York State Police and Chenango County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office says the victim was treated by members of the Otselic Volunteer Fire department before being airlifted to SUNY Upstate Hospital. They say he is listed in “serious, but stable condition.”
Authorities noted a full investigation by crime scene technicians was completed at the scene of the stabbing and the motel. This led to the recovery of the knife used in the stabbing, they say.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office says Williams was arraigned in the Town of Smyrna Court for assault in the 2nd degree and remanded to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on $10,000 bond.
