Local law enforcement see spike in reckless driving

BROOME COUNTY (WBNG) — A recent rise in crashes in Broome County has local law enforcement on alert.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office says oftentimes when the weather is nice, reckless driving rises.

“A lot of times when it’s nicer out, sunny beautiful days, people tend to let their hair down a little bit and drive a little bit quicker maybe take a little bit extra chances on the road,” said Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Stapleton.

Stapleton says many times these crashes are preventable when you stick to the rules of the road. From speeding to distracted driving, he say its all too common this time of year.

The Sheriff’s Office investigates high crash areas and sends more officers to patrol those places.
