‘Amelia’s Voice 5K’ raises over $6,000, sees attendance of 200

OXFORD, N.Y. (WBNG) —  A community of runners came out to raise money in honor of a local teenager who died earlier this year Saturday afternoon.

The “Amelia’s Voice 5K” honored 16-year-old Amelia Wakefield who was murdered in April.

Organizers say nearly 200 people showed up to the event, around double of what they were expecting.

According to organizers, over $6,000 was raised at the 5K.  Fifty percent of the proceeds will go toward the Amelia Wakefield Scholarship Fund at Oxford Academy and the other 50 percent will toward a non-profit organization in Chenango County that helps victims of domestic violence.
