3 people killed in head-on collision in upstate New York

SHELBY, N.Y. (AP) — A head-on collision on an upstate New York highway has left three people dead.

State police say a U-Haul van was heading south on Route 63 when it crossed the center line hitting an oncoming pickup truck in Shelby at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Both vehicles left the roadway and caught on fire.

The van’s driver has been identified as 80-year-old Charles Stevens, of Black River. The passenger was 57-year-old Jeffrey Johnson, of Carthage.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck has not been identified.

The crash remains under investigation.
