Vestal Public Library excited for new makeover

VESTAL (WBNG) — The Vestal Public Library is renovating its Youth Services Department from top to bottom.

“I wanted to make the space more open, I wanted to make the department larger and overall just more inviting and modern because this library is a little outdated,” said Youth Services Librarian Anna Lake.

A project in the works for about a year, the library is working with a design company out of New Jersey called Creative Library Concepts.

“They have some movers here, they’re relocating existing shelves, we removed some old shelves and then we are having new shelves installed, new furniture, a new desk and just a lot of new stuff for the kids to use,” said Lake.

The renovations will also include a more private area for teens to spend time in, with space to study.

Lake hopes renovations not only make the library more open and inviting, but also safer. The new layout will allow parents to see their children at all times when standing inside the department.

While these renovations will update the Youth Services Department, Lake hopes remodeling will continue throughout the entire library.

She says the project in total costs $45,000.

A grant from American Craft Furniture funded $10,000 of the total. The other $35,000 came from a capital reserve fund, money Lake says was given to the library when it separated from the town.

The library is currently closed for renovations, but will host its grand reopening on Wednesday October 16.
