Pink bagels help the fight against breast cancer

CHENANGO (WBNG) — Best Bagels in Town on Upper Front Street cranks out bagels every morning.

For the past ten years, each October, the store has added pink bagels to the menu.

“It’s growing and growing each year and it’s our way of using our business to support a good cause,” said owner Christie Pinney.

A portion of the proceeds from the pink bagels goes toward the Making Strides walk coming up on Sunday, raising dough for a good cause. Pinney says each year, her store is able to donate thousands.

“It’s so important for any cancer research that we have to as a community, as individuals, support. If we don’t out our money, or our time, or our effort out there, then cures are not going to be found,” said Pinney.

The community continuously comes out to support, happy to brighten up their breakfast.

“We’re doing our part by giving up a portion of our proceeds, but so is the community. They know, come here, let’s change my daily bagel to a pink bagel this time of the year because it’s going to support a good cause,” said Pinney.

And on Friday, 100% of the proceeds from the pink bagels, plus any other pink products, will be donated.

It’s all with the goal of fighting a disease that impacts people all over the Southern Tier and beyond.

“So many people are affected by breast cancer whether they have it, a sister, a mother, a friend, a family member,” said Pinney.

This time of year, the store’s motto is ‘eat pink bagels, help save lives.’
