Weather Doesn’t Stop Fall Festival Preparations

TOWN OF DICKINSON (WBNG) — Despite a damp week here in the Southern Tier, preparations are underway to transform Otsiningo Park into a fall wonderland for this year’s fall festival.

“We’ll get everything set up for Sunday, luckily the place in the park where it’s going to happen that field drains the quickest,” said Liz Woidt, director of Parks, Recreation and Youth Services for Broome County.

On a truly raw and rainy day, employees unfazed by the weather, getting tables and other equipment set up. Organizers are hoping that the cold and rainy weather will encourage people to get out of the house and come enjoy all that the fall festival has to offer when the nicer weather arrives for the weekend.

“As you can see now the weather is not ideal but we’re hoping that after people have been inside all week they’ll be able to come out this week and enjoy the sunshine and enjoy this festival at Otsiningo Park,” Woidt said.

The festival is a hybrid of several local traditions, including Trunk or Treat and the fourth annual scarecrow contest.

“We’ve got a Trunk or Treat from 12-130 p.m. and then the fall festival will be the whole time from 12 to 4 we’re going to have organizations out here, we’re going to have games and a DJ,” Woidt said.
