TIOGA COUNTY (WBNG) — Tioga County Sheriff’s Investigators say one person was killed in a crash near Waverly Sunday night.
Senior Investigator Timothy Schmidt says the crash took place between exits 61 and 62 on Route 17 eastbound around 6:45 Sunday night.
Schmidt says a car hit a deer and became disabled. That’s when a tractor-trailer rear-ended the car.
Investigators say there were multiple people in the car at the time of the crash, including multiple children.
More than one person was taken to Robert Packer hospital in Sayre, Pa with severe injuries. One person was also killed.
They say the road was reopened Monday morning.
The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office says they were assisted by New York State Police, Waverly-Barton Fire Department, Greater Valley EMS, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
