Ed Stack makes appearance in Binghamton, talks decision to stop selling assault rifles

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — One of Binghamton’s most successful businessmen paid the Southern Tier a visit on Tuesday.

Ed Stack, Chief Executive Officer of Dick’s Sporting Goods, stopped by the Binghamton University Forum Luncheon Tuesday afternoon to showcase his new book.

The book discusses the highs and lows of his success story, the importance of youth sports, and his decision to stop selling AR-15’s and other similar weapons.

Speaking with 12 News, Stack touched on a meeting he had with families affected by the Parkland shooting, who asked him to keep the conversation around the topic going.

“I remember one woman talking to me, who said ‘It’s been a month since my son was killed. I go into his room every night and I talk to him.’ As a parent, you can’t even imagine what that must be like,” Stack said.

Stack added that his promise to continue the conversation was just one of the reasons he decided to write his book.
