OWEGO (WBNG) — Family, friends and community members came together Saturday night to honor the two precious lives taken after a tragic car crash.
“They were like the same entity, the same soul,” one of the sisters of Zachary and Trinity said tearfully at a candlelight vigil Saturday night. “They were just close. They had each other through everything.”
Zachary, a second grader at Owego Elementary School, and his sister Trinity, a sixth grader at Owego Apalachin Middle School, passed away as the result of a tragic car crash that took place on October, 20. Nearly two weeks later, community members gathered outside Owego Elementary School to grieve.
“We wanted to give the younger kids that were friends with little Zach and Trinity a place that’s not quite as solemn as a funeral to get closure,” said event organizer Tarrah Koehler.
In addition to candles, glow sticks helped to make the vigil kid-friendly. Family and friends took turns sharing memories and listened to music.
“I know that this is a big loss not only for our family but for the community but we were so lucky to have them,” their mom told the crowd. “If we can take anything away from this its to live like they did, be free with your love and don’t be afraid to show it. Enjoy what the world has to offer while you’re here like they did.”
